Students help Athens participate in 100 Alabama Mile Challenge

ATHENS-The Athens Mayor’s Youth Commission is participating in the statewide program 100 Alabama Miles by hosting a walk/run event on Swan Creek Greenway on May 13 from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

 

The event will kick off t Swan Creek Park, and walkers/runners can go north to the Sportsplex Trailhead or south to the U.S. 72 Trailhead.

 

Youth Commissioners will distribute free 100 Alabama Miles T-shirts and decals to the first 50 participants.

 

The 100 Alabama Miles Challenge is a statewide program designed to inspire all Alabamians to kick-start an active, healthy lifestyle while exploring our beautiful state and connecting with fellow participants. Several cities including Athens are holding events to encourage citizens to walk, run, hike, bike, swim, paddle, ride or roll 100 miles each year and to do so by visiting Alabama’s many wonderful parks, nature preserves and waterways.

 

Swan Creek Greenway in Athens is a National Recreation Trail that runs along Swan Creek and offers a covered bridge, views of native wildlife and access to recreational facilities including parks, an archery range, outdoor fitness court and playgrounds.
