Steven L. Long, age 64, of Huntsville, passed away on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, at Huntsville Hospital. He was born on December 5, 1961, in Decatur, Alabama, to Alfred L. Long and Carolyn Ann Nix Long.
Steven was a carpenter by trade and truly loved his work. When the day was done, he found peace and enjoyment turning wood in his shop. He loved the outdoors, whether camping, hiking, or spending time at the drag strip watching the cars race. Steven also enjoyed watching Alabama football and often talked about returning to Colorado, either to visit or to make it his home once again.
Steven proudly served in the United States Army, fulfilling his duty as called upon. He attended New Friendship Baptist Church in Somerville.
Steven was preceded in death by his father, Alfred L. Long.
He is survived by his mother, Carolyn Long Marusak; his three children, Chris (Amber) Long, Stephanie (Jay) Hampton, and Jonathon (Ashley) Long; his grandchildren, Christeven “CD” Long, Steffen Long, Bama Long-Fowler, Sarenity Long, and Noah Long; his four sisters, Michelle (Wesley) Woods, Kelly Jeffreys, Nancy (Tracy) Maples, and Christie (Gerald Curtis “Bubba”) Goodwin; and a host of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, January 19, 2026, at 12:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Decatur Brown Service Funeral Home, with burial to follow at Roselawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Monday.
