Steven "Steve" St. JohnSteven Duane St. John, age 76, of Arab, Alabama, passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 16, 2025. Steve was born on September 22, 1949, in Pasco, Washington, to Duane Odell St. John and Eileen Eva McCullough St. John.
Steve proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. He served 21 years as a Navy SEAL, participating in several classified operations, and retired with the rank of Chief Petty Officer in 1989. Following his military retirement, Steve continued his love of the sea, working as an offshore captain for an additional 25 years.
Above all else, Steve was known for his deep love for God. His greatest passion was spreading the Word of God and worshiping through music, often playing his guitar at church. He was a faithful member of Landmark United Pentecostal Church in Huntsville. Steve enjoyed listening to Fleetwood Mac and Heart, but his favorite song was “Turn! Turn! Turn!” by The Byrds, which reflected his favorite scripture:
“To everything there is a season, and a time for every purpose under heaven.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1
Steve earned an Associate Degree in Theology from Hillview Bible College of Huntsville. He received the Holy Ghost in 2010 and was especially proud to be baptized by his son, Pastor Chris St. John. Wanting to share his faith with others, Steve became active in the motorcycle ministry, riding with the Ghost Warriors of Arab (GWA) until he was no longer able to ride.
Steve is survived by his wife of 52 years, Linda Fields St. John; his children, Sabrina (Mark) Ewell, Chris (Kendra) St. John, and Billy St. John; his grandchildren, Braden (Samantha) St. John, Abby Ewell, Ari Ewell, Angel Ewell, Lexi Ewell, and Ava Ewell; and his great-grandchildren, Erin-Oakland St. John and Alaina-Mae St. John.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Duane and Eileen St. John.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at 2:00 PM at Landmark United Pentecostal Church in Huntsville, with Pastor Stephen Gaddis and Pastor Chris St. John officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until service time at the church.
