Steve “Chunk” Newby

Steve “Chunk” Newby was born and raised in the Monrovia area and lived in Madison County all his life.  He graduated from Sparkman High School.  At the time of his death, he was semi-retired but still working part time at Fox Run Golf Course in Meridianville, Alabama. He is survived by wife Barbara Jean (Dodson), his son Brad (Kristi), daughter Mandy, step-daughter Stacie Tovar (Jamie), and step-son Jason Miller.  He was a devoted Paw-Paw to seven grandsons: Philip Newby (BJ), Ryen Newby, Cameron Tovar (Kaitlyn), Josh Tovar, Jordan Miller, John Newby, and William Newby; one granddaughter: Addison Newby; great-granddaughter: Willow Faye Newby; and great-grandson, Rowen Newby. Chunk was one of eight children of Tom & Doris Newby.  He is survived by sisters Marta “Sissy” Owenby (Doug), Lisa Morris (Ottie), Tracy Lang (Wayne), Sherri Newby (Vivian) and brothers Frankie (Nancy) and Robin (Tammy).  He was preceded in death by sister Vicki.

Visitation will be held on Friday, September 27, 2019 from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm at Spry Funeral Home of Huntsville. Services will follow the visitation at 6:00 pm in the Spry Funeral Home chapel.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to the American Heart Association.
