Obituary of Stephen H Terrell It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Stephen Henry Terrell, age 76, of Hokes Bluff, Alabama, on March 1, 2025. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Stephen’s life was marked by service, faith, and devotion to his community.

Stephen was born in Rome, Georgia, and graduated from East Rome High School before entering the U.S. Army. He proudly served in the Military Police Corps for almost 26 years, achieving the rank of First Sergeant (E8). His dedication to serving his country and his fellow service members was unwavering. Upon his retirement from the Army, Stephen transitioned to law enforcement, becoming a police officer in Ohatchee, later serving as an officer in Southside, and eventually rising to the role of Chief of Police in Southside. He concluded his law enforcement career as a Court Magistrate for the State of Alabama, retiring for the second time with distinction.

Stephen was happiest when he was worshiping at Meadowbrook Church in Gadsden, Alabama, where he was an active member and a steadfast believer in the power of faith. His love for God and his community was evident in everything he did.

Stephen is preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Charlotte Terrell, of Rome, Georgia. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 46 years, Sue Terrell of Hokes Bluff, AL; his daughter, Shawn Conley, and his grandchildren, Bella and Van Conley, all of Kansas City, Missouri. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Pam and Stan Walker, of Rome, Georgia; his aunt, Emma Ellen Griffin, of Chattanooga, Tennessee; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends who will miss him dearly.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the Meadowbrook Church family, their neighbors, and the doctors, nurses, and staff at Gadsden Regional Medical Center’s ER and MICU for their compassion and care during Stephen’s final days.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Meadowbrook Church, 2525 Rainbow Drive, Gadsden, Alabama 35901.

Stephen’s legacy of service, faith, and love will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him. He will be greatly missed, but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Stephen. You have served well, and your family and community are forever grateful.
