Stephen A. Harkins, age 89, of Florence, Ala., passed away Saturday, Jan. 18, 2014. Visitation will be today, 10-11 a.m., at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Florence. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 with Father Roy Runkle officiating. A graveside service, with military honors, will be held at 3 p.m. at Roselawn Cemetery in Decatur, Ala.
Mr. Harkins was a World War II veteran, serving in the European and Pacific theaters. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Mr. Harkins also volunteered at ECM Hospital for 15 years.
Mr. Harkins was preceded in death by wife, Betty Keenum Harkins in 1987.
Survivors include
wife, Ruth Williams Harkins;
sons, John, of Belle Vernon, Pa., Thomas and wife, Ginger, of Trinity, Ala., and Patrick and wife, Mary, and children, Lili and Clay, of Birmingham, Ala.;
stepson, Michael Williams, of Florence, Ala.;
and stepdaughter, Patricia Robinson and husband, Jay, of Atlanta, Ga.
Pallbearers will be family and friends.
