COLBERT COUNTY-The Colbert County Sheriff, Frank Williamson has issued an update on the missing person case reported here on Monday.
Here is the statement from Sheriff Frank Williamson:
“UPDATE … MISSING PERSON … UPDATE
Colbert County Sheriff, Frank Williamson and his team of investigators would like to update the public on the matter of missing elderly male subject, Leon Tidwell.
After four days of searching the area, including Hayes Landing Boat Ramp and the surrounding woods, water, islands and terrain there has been no evidence of anyone having been in these areas. There has been no contact with Mr. Tidwell and no sign of distress or signs of recent abandoned camping in the area.
The helicopter and search dogs neither one turned up a clue. There are details about this situation that were not discussed due to the sensitive nature. However, now since no contact has been made we feel it will not hinder the case to confirm the fact that on Monday, June 8th, there was a car recovered from the waters at the boat ramp. However no one was in the vehicle, and Mr. Tidwell was seen later in the day, safe and walking thru this area on foot.
We are not sure at this time what connection or purpose the car has with the disappearance of Mr Tidwell. However, Mr Tidwell has not been seen since that day and his family is worried due to the fact that he is not in good health and does require daily medication.
We want to do our best to help locate him to make sure he doesn’t need medical attention and help return him to his family and friends. However, there is no sign that he is in this area, nor any sign that anyone has been living in the woods.
The search in this area will be suspended for the present time, unless further evidence points to a need to search the area again. At this time our investigators are still interviewing people and trying to piece together a reason that Mr. Tidwell may have disappeared. Many man hours have been spent walking the woods, searching by boat, driving the highways at all hours of the day and night, and interviewing friends and family. We ask that if anyone has any information or even a small detail they think might be of assistance please call anytime. We are still dedicated to locating Mr. Tidwell and assuring his family that he is safe.
Thank you to all the volunteers, and our own personnel who have tirelessly searched. Alot of the time the public may not have known but there have been dozens of people working on this case. We appreciate how everyone comes together to help in times of need, and we still pray that Mr. Tidwell is found safe.”
