Stanley Louis Smith of Huntsville, AL, passed away on Saturday, May 14. Surviving him are his children, Laura Elizabeth Smith of Huntsville, AL, and Dr. Stephen Lee Smith (Monica); grandchildren, Carolyn Smith, Claire Smith, and Catherine Smith of Mountain View, CA; sister, Ella Roberts; nephew, David Roberts of Pensacola, Florida; and nieces Susan Huff (Larry) of Cantonment, Florida, Quimby Kerns (Stan) and Naomi Rhoda (Kirk) of Redlands, CA. His parents, Edd and Beulah Smith, brother, Bill Smith, and sister, Edwina Fink preceded him in death.
He was born March 22, 1934, in Bagdad, Florida. He received a Ph.D. in electrical engineering from the University of Florida, taught at the University of Florida and Southern Methodist University, and also had a career in industry at Texas Instruments in Dallas, TX, and General Research Corporation in Fort Walton Beach, FL. He was an avid reader and book collector, and loved nature. He was a member of St. Simon’s on the Sound Episcopal Church in Fort Walton Beach, FL.
A memorial service will be held at a later date in his home town, Bagdad, FL.
