RAINBOW CITY-A 911 call was received on Thursday, March 10 about a man acting unusual and saying things that did not make sense. Rainbow City Police responded and the man was uncooperative and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Deputies responded as well. The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office released a statement:
“A Gadsden man prompted a brief standoff this morning in Rainbow City, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
A 9-1-1 call was received at 8:13 a.m. today about a white male, who callers state, was acting unusual and speaking of things that did not make sense. The suspect was at a residence on Highway 77, near Susan’s Daycare.
Rainbow City police responded in an attempt to speak to the individual. However, when officers approached him he responded with threats of suicide with a knife.
The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, Gadsden Police Department, Southside Police Department, Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG), Rainbow City Fire Department and A-Med Ambulance responded to assist Rainbow City.
After negotiation, the suspect put the knife down and was taken into custody by JSOG members at approximately 9:14 a.m. He was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation.”
