Standoff that locked down daycare on Thursday ends without casualties

police-standoffRAINBOW CITY-A 911 call was received on Thursday, March 10 about a man acting unusual and saying things that did not make sense. ย Rainbow City Police responded and the man was uncooperative and the Etowah County Sheriff’s Deputies responded as well. ย The Etowahย County Sheriff’s Office released a statement:

ย “A Gadsden man prompted a brief standoff this morning in Rainbow City, according to Sheriff Todd Entrekin.
A 9-1-1 call was received at 8:13 a.m. today about a white male, who callers state, was acting unusual and speaking of things that did not make sense. The suspect was at a residence on Highway 77, near Susanโ€™s Daycare.
Rainbow City police responded in an attempt to speak to the individual. However, when officers approached him he responded with threats of suicide with a knife.
The Etowah County Sheriffโ€™s Office, Gadsden Police Department, Southside Police Department, Joint Special Operations Group (JSOG), Rainbow City Fire Department and A-Med Ambulance responded to assist Rainbow City.
After negotiation, the suspect put the knife down and was taken into custody by JSOG members at approximately 9:14 a.m. He was taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for a mental evaluation.”
