FLORENCE-St Vincent de Paul celebrated the opening of their thrift store, located at 659 South Poplar Street in Florence on Tuesday, April 19. The Shoals Chamber was on hand to help with the celebration by holding a ribbon cutting. Friends of St Vincent de Paul were on hand to tour the store and enjoy the refreshments.
Here is a word about St Vincent de Paul Thrift Store by St Vincent de Paul:
“It is the mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference to come together in friendship and prayer to assist the poor in our parishes and communities through works of charity. There is no work of charity foreign to the Society. The Florence Conference of the Society, known locally as SVDP, meets weekly to send volunteer conference members known as Vin-centians two by two to client’s homes to listen, pray together and determine the extent of their need. SVDP assists with utilities when a final notice has been received, with past due rent to prevent eviction, and with medicine or medical/dental needs. Conference members also assist with food and clothing ,and furniture vouchers.
The Conference is funded from sales in the SVDP Thrift Store located at 659 S. Poplar St. in Florence. In addition to store sales, we receive dona-tions by parishioners of the Catholic churches in the Shoals and through sales of goods donated to the thrift store, community grants, and through the generosity of corporate sponsors. All donations to the conference are spent entirely on our charitable work while the thrift store sales from dona-tions support the store.
Our Open House is a celebration of our SVDP Thrift Store renovation, a re-dedication of the store honoring our founders, current employees and vol-unteers and our mission of charity. We also want everyone to know where we are located, come share a light lunch and a tour of the store and meet your friends shopping! We hope you will be pleased with what you find and support us in our mission to “Help Us Help Others”!”
