SQ Whitehead, 94, passed away Thursday, February 13, 2025 at his residence. He was born in Tishomingo County Mississippi to Joseph Edgar and Rosie Etta Ivey Whitehead. He was a member of Old Bethel Church and was a Mason and a Shriner for 59 years. Mr. Whitehead served in the U.S. Army. He was a long time business man in North Mississippi and Alabama. He owned several different businesses including Rainbow Dollar Store on Main Street in Belmont, MS until his retirement. After retirement he continued to work at the Rainbow Dollar store in Tishomingo, MS up until November of 2024. He loved four things above all: God, work, country, and family probably in that order. His favorite saying was “I was born to work” and he was absolutely correct. He was loved and will be missed by many, especially his family.
Services will be Tuesday, February 18, 1p.m. at Old Bethel Church, Belmont, MS, he will lie in state at the church from 11-1 on Tuesday. Bro. Terry Paul Graham will be officiating. Visitation will be Monday, February 17, 6-9 p.m. at Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS. Burial will be in Old Bethel Cemetery. Deaton Funeral Home, Belmont, MS will be in charge of arrangements.
He is survived by his children- Donnie Whitehead (Gloria), Tommy Whitehead (Pam), Valerie Wright (Jeff), 2 Grandchildren- Kristen Zemek and Zack Whitehead, 2- Great grandchildren- Ayden Zemek and Logan Zemek, 1- Sister- Inez Taylor (Junior).
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife- Faye Whitehead, 8- Sisters- Elviree Floyd, Lois Elvgreen Carden, Lera Hale, Lewveria Ann Whitehead, Mattie Faye Moore, Belvie Birthine Whitehead, Alva Mae Jamerson, Vera Ann Whitehead, 8- Brothers- Garvin Whitehead, Marvin Odell Whitehead, William Travis Whitehead, Jessie Lee Whitehead, John Henry Whitehead, Bobbie Lee Whitehead, Joseph Lee Whitehead, January Jewell Whitehead .
Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
