FLORENCE – The Fireworks show at Florence’s mcFarland Park is certain to be a big deal this year. Bigger and better than ever, the launch site is moving from mid-river to the land. The displays will be launched from the end of the park, just at the point where Cypress Creek enters the Tennessee River.
Derrick Robinson, of Urban Radio Broadcasting told the quad-Cities Daily that the fireworks will be launched at a slight angle so that they will burst over the middle of the waterway. It should be one heck of a show.
As it happens each year, lots of spectators who do not want to go through the hassle of trying to fight traffic to get into McFarland park during the festival will be watching the fireworks show from the Sheffield side of Pickwick Lake. Most folks load up the streets in the Cliff Haven neighborhood to see the show. However, this year many people are expected to move their viewing position westward to get a better view of the display. Sheffield Fire Marshall, Terry Lentz and Police Chief, Greg Ray are taking appropriate safety measures to ensure that things on the Sheffield side of the river are safe.
As plans are developed, we will publish more information.
