sonjaSonja Kaye Hall Moody, age 59, peacefully passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2015, surrounded by her loving family and friends in Decatur. Visitation will be Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home. The funeral service will be Saturday, July 11, at 2 p.m. at Parkway Funeral Home, with Brother Steve Caudle and O.D. Bowling officiating, followed by a graveside service at the Caddo Congregational Christian Church Cemetery.
Ms. Moody was born April 15, 1956, and grew up in Lawrence County. She was preceded in death by her father, Hershel Hall and brother, Hershel “Sonny” Hall Jr.
Survivors include her mother, Clendora Dodd; brother, Robert Hall; two daughters, Amber Moody Stuart and Caitlin Moody, both of Decatur; son-in-law, Kevin Stuart; and two grandsons, Cole Huston Stuart and Cannon Lee Stuart.
Originally a stay-at-home mom, Ms. Moody retired from a 25-plus year career as a clerk at the Morgan County Courthouse. A member of the Trinity Baptist Church, she is most remembered for her selfless care of family and friends and for loving everyone she met. Affectionately known as YaYa to her two grandsons, she found great joy in trips to the beach and painting, which was one of her favorite pastimes. Ms. Moody was a 1974 graduate of Lawrence County High School, participated in Girls State and served as Miss LCHS for her class.
Pallbearers will be Austin Lowery, Rodney Lowery, Jeff Hall, Carlus Hall, Richard Boyd and Mike Frost.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sonja Moody to the Alzheimer’s Association, 117 Longwood Dr. SE, Suite A, Huntsville, AL 35801, (256) 880-1575, alz.org. The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff of The Terrace of Priceville, Memory Care Unit.
