Nicholas Drue Scoggin
LAWRENCE COUNTY-The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department issued a statement regarding the arrest of a suspect on charges of Robbery, Kidnapping and Murder in the death of a 67-year-old woman:
“On Friday night March 11th 2022, Deputies responded to a welfare check at a residence located on County Road 230 in the Chalybeate Springs community of Lawrence County. Deputies discovered the body of Deborah Landers Bryant age 67 of Hillsboro, AL. It was determined that there were signs of foul play and that she had been dead for a couple of days.
Nicholas Drue Scoggin age 37 of Hillsboro, AL was immediately identified as a suspect. Nicholas Drue Scoggin was living with his mother Deborah Landers Bryant at the time of this incident. Nicholas Drue Scoggin was apprehended a short time later by Deputies at a friend’s house on Alabama Highway 20 in Hillsboro.
During the investigation, investigators learned that an argument took place between Nicholas Drue Scoggin and his mother, Deborah Landers Bryant. The argument was over Mr. Scoggin’s mother refusing to give him a ride to a girlfriend’s house and a dog. The body of Deborah Landers Bryant has been sent to the Department of Forensic Science in Huntsville to determine the cause of death. Sheriff Sanders appreciates the public support during this investigation and asks anyone with further information to come forward. Nicholas Drue Scoggin age 37 of Hillsboro, Al was arrested and booked into the Lawrence County Jail on the following charges: Murder, Kidnapping 1st degree and Robbery 1st degree.
All persons are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.”
