Oleanna
Directed by Michael Green
November 20-22, 2020
Come join us November 20-22, 2020 for a limited socially distanced run of David Mamet’s Oleanna under the direction of Michael Green. Oleanna centers around the power struggle between a university professor and one of his female students, who accuses him of sexual harassment and, by doing so, spoils his chances of being accorded tenure. The play premiered in 1992 and was later adapted into a movie starring William H. Macy (reprising his role from the original off Broadway production at the Orpheum Theatre) and Debra Eisenstadt in 1994.
Roger Ebert. the famed movie critic, after seeing the original production in 1992 wrote: “Experiencing David Mamet’s play Oleanna on the stage was one of the most stimulating experiences I’ve had in a theater. In two acts, he succeeded in enraging all of the audience – the women with the first act, the men with the second. I recall loud arguments breaking out during the intermission and after the play, as the audience spilled out of an off-Broadway theater all worked up over its portrait of… sexual harassment? Or was it self-righteous Political Correctness?”
Come join us as Macy Ladner and Michael Hill take on the roles of Carol and John under the direction of Michael Green. This will be a socially distanced show with a limited number of in person tickets available at the Shoals Theatre box office and via phone at 256-764-1700. No tickets for this production will be available online.
