TENNESSEE VALLEY-Forecasters have increasing confidence that Alabama will have to deal with some winter precipitation on Friday. The big questions remain about who gets snow, who gets ice and who gets rain. Above is the forecast for 6 a.m. Friday. Precipitation could begin across Alabama starting late Thursday, however. The Huntsville and Nashville NWS offices both mention 4 to 6 or 4 to 7 inches of snow with isolated amounts up to 8 inches possible within their watch areas.
WINTER STORM WATCH IN EFFECT FROM LATE THURSDAY NIGHT THROUGH
LATE FRIDAY NIGHT NORTHERN ALABAMA AND SOUTHERN MIDDLE TENNESSEE…
* WHAT…Heavy snow possible Northern Alabama and Southern Middle
Tennessee. Total snow accumulations between 4 and 6 inches
possible with higher amounts up to 8 inches.
* WHERE…Portions of north central, northeast, and northwest
Alabama and southern middle Tennessee.
* WHEN…From late Thursday night through late Friday night.
* IMPACTS…Roads, and especially bridges and overpasses, will
likely become slick and hazardous.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…
Persons should delay all travel if possible. If travel is absolutely
necessary, drive with extreme caution and be prepared for sudden
changes in visibility. Leave plenty of room between you and the
motorist ahead of you, and allow extra time to reach your
destination. Avoid sudden braking or acceleration, and be especially
cautious on hills or when making turns. Make sure your car is
winterized and in good working order.

Several local agencies and organizations are planning to open their doors next week as temperatures in North Alabama continue to fall.
Forecast for Thursday Night and Friday:
One important thing to note: Alabama’s Emergency Management Agency warned on Tuesday morning that “Impacts will likely begin almost immediately on roadways once the winter precipitation starts due to how cold the pavement will become this week.”
