CHICKASAW COUNTY, MS – On August 1, 2017, at approximately 7:38 a.m., the Natchez Trace Parkway Communications Center received notification of a single motor vehicle collision near Okolona, MS (milepost 237). U.S. Park Rangers, Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Deputies, and the Okolona Fire Department responded to the scene.
The vehicle, a 2003 Ford Explorer, was operated by Jon Hickman, age 56, of Tupelo, MS. Preliminary information indicates that Hickman was traveling Northbound on the Parkway when the vehicle crossed the centerline, left the roadway, and struck a tree. Okolona Fire Department personnel extracted Hickman from the vehicle, and he was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Chickasaw County Coroner.
