Mr. Sidney Ray Suggs, age 82 of Athens, AL passed away on Monday, July 30, 2018 at Athens Limestone Hospital. Mr. Suggs was born on March 31, 1936 in Huntsville, AL to Ulysses Jackson Suggs and Ophelia Gladney Suggs.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, E.J. Suggs and sister-in-law Patsy Suggs.
Mr. Suggs is survived by his wife, Faye Suggs of Athens, AL; son, Jeff Suggs and wife Darla of Athens, AL; two grandsons, Jonathon Suggs and wife CeLee of Brentwood, TN and Evan Suggs and wife Deborah of Huntsville, AL; four great-grandchildren, Huxton, Stone, Samuel and Naomi Suggs.
Mr. Suggs was an active member of the Marine Corps League and Gideons International. He retired from State Farm after 40 years of service as an agent. Mr. Suggs worked with the youth at West Highland Baptist Church, Oakdale Baptist Church and Salem Springs Baptist Church. He coached in various youth sports leagues in Athens.
Services for Mr. Suggs will be at 3:00PM Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Limestone Chapel Funeral Home with Bob White, Dan Hughes and Greg Lauderback officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:45 prior to the funeral. Burial will be in Roselawn Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of Limestone County, Alabama Baptist Children’s Homes or Gideons International.
