Sidney Herbert Douglas Sidney Herbert Douglas, 86, died Thursday at his Huntsville home. Mr. Douglas was born in Yuma, Tennessee to John and Ondean Douglas. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his five siblings, Gaylon, Vonelle, Shirley, Edwin, and Dorothy.

Mr. Douglas served in the Air Force from 1953 to 1957. He married his wife Helen in 1959, and moved his family from Memphis, TN to Huntsville in 1963 to work on Redstone Arsenal. While working and raising a family with Helen, he also earned a B.S. in Political Science from Athens State, and an MBA from UAH. After a long career as a programmer, he retired from MICOM in 1990. Since retiring, he enjoyed playing softball and golf, and spending time with family, including attending his beloved grandchildren’s many sporting events. He also spent a lot of time with his cherished grand-dog, Tootsie, who predeceased him by exactly one year.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Helen Wall Douglas; children, Susan Douglas, Donna Kehres (Steve), and David Douglas (Terri), all of Huntsville; and his grandchildren, Jayna Kehres, Lindsay Douglas, Michelle Kehres, Katie Douglas, and Jake Douglas.

Visitation will be from 11:30 to 12:30 Sunday, September 27 at Laughlin Service Funeral Home, followed by a graveside service at 1:00 at Maple Hill Cemetery.
