Sidney Edward Hamm – Obituary

sidney Sidney Edward Hamm was born June 7, 1921, in western Colbert County to William and Pearl Hamm. On Aug. 5, 2014, at the age of 93, he went to home to be with the Lord. Visitation will be today at 2:30 p.m. followed by a funeral service at 3:30 p.m. at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence. Gary Patton will officiate.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Hamilton Hamm, brothers, Harold Hamm, Almon Hamm, and Wendell Hamm, and his sisters, Myrle Hamm, Mamie Ayres, and Johnnie Posey.

Sidney is survived by his second wife, Jane Hamm; his son, Michael Edward Hamm; and two granddaughters, Rebekah Tucker and Rachel Hamm.

The family is especially appreciative of the excellent care given in his final days by Stephanie Moore and Tammi Thompson as well as by Hospice of the Shoals.

His working career began with farm work alongside his father. After moving to Florence in 1945, he was a bus driver for Shoals Transit and later for Continental Trailways logging over 1 million miles. The remainder of his work-life was an an automobile salesman and business owner. He operated Sid Hamm Chrysler-Plymouth ten years from 1964 until 1974. He was known throughout the area as a hardworking man, who was friendly, honest, dependable and kind to his co-workers and employees. More importantly, he loved his family and gave of himself for them.

Most importantly, Sidney obeyed the gospel when he was 69-years-old. He was a faithful Christian who was a member of College View church of Chris –
