Shooting Leaves One 14-Year-Old In Hospital And Another Under Arrest

shooting-jpg-300x225TUPELO-A shooting took place on Wednesday morning, September 30 at a home on South Highland.   A 14-year-old boy is in the hospital and another is under arrest after the shooting which happened just before 10 am on Wednesday.

The shooting was so close to nearby schools that some Tupelo schools were placed on lockdown.  The schools involved were  Tupelo Middle School, Fillmore Center and Pierce Street Elementary.

According to police sources, two 14-year-old friends were at a home on South Highland when one of them was shot in the ear. It is unclear if the shooting was accidental or if an argument had ensued.

 

Investigators said the shooter hid the gun somewhere at Tupelo Middle School and went to class. The weapon was discovered and the shooter arrested after the victim called 911.

 

Tupelo Public School District Communications Director Kay Bishop said the partial lockdown was lifted at 10:36 am after the shooter was arrested and the gun was secured.

Investigators said the victim had severe damage to the ear.  No official information is available on the actual condition of the victim.

The case remains under investigation according to police officials..
