THE SHOALS – The Shoals Chamber of Commerce is partnering with Northwest-Shoals Community College to offer “Tools of the Trades”, also known as the Shoals Summer Technology Institute for Educators.
For six days beginning on June 9, middle and high school counselors and teachers in the math and science departments will learn about local career opportunities and how these subjects are used in the workforce.
Participants include 24 public and private school educators, including 2015 Alabama Teacher of the Year Jennifer Brown at Vestavia Hills High School.
While touring northwest Alabama businesses and industries, they will see many first-hand career opportunities in technical fields related to their specific subjects.
“This program is a great way to let educators help students find careers in Northwest Alabama. The Shoals Chamber’s prime initiatives is to promote education and workforce readiness. “Tools of the Trade” is a big step in doing that,” states Vice President of Workforce Readiness at the Chamber, Stephanie Newland.
The Summer Institute is not possible without the support of the Governor’s Office of Workforce Development and generous contributions from Northwest-Shoals Community College, Southwire, Armand Products/Occidental Chemical, the Wells Fargo Foundation, TVA’s Power Service Shops, and TVA’s Browns Ferry Nuclear.
