Shirley Sue Bishop Mitchell, 75, passed away Friday, May 22, 2026, at her residence. She was born in Mississippi to Estes Bishop and Magdleen Young. For over 20 years, she dedicated herself to serving as the church secretary at Fulton Bridge Baptist Church. She found deep joy in supporting the children’s choir, participating in Vacation Bible School, and lovingly caring for the nursery. A truly selfless soul, she consistently put the needs of others before her own. Above all, she was a beloved wife and devoted mother of three and a loyal friend to many. Her contributions to her community were meaningful and enduring. She cherished her family and friends, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and unwavering generosity that will be remembered by all who knew her.
Funeral service will be Sunday, May 24, 2026, at 2 P.M. at Deaton Funeral Home Chapel, Red Bay, AL, with Bro. Billy Nichols officiating. Visitation will be Saturday, May 23, 2026, from 5–8 P.M. at Deaton Funeral Home. Burial will be in Hamilton Memorial Gardens. Deaton Funeral Home, Red Bay, AL, will be in charge of arrangements.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Aaron Mitchell; three children, Paul Mitchell (Amy), Angie Allen (Bryan), and Pam Harris (Josh); nine grandchildren, Annah Allen, Andrew Mitchell (Amber), Alex Mitchell (Josette), Matthew Mitchell (Allicen), Adam Allen (Jade), Aaron Allen, Tommie Harris, Mitchell Harris (Amber), and Bailey Harris (Samantha); nine great grandchildren, Rylee, Maggie, Emmett, Gordon, Isaac, Lily, Saylor, Hadley and William; five brothers and sisters, William Bishop, Elizabeth Mitchell, Shelby Bishop, Martha Bishop, and Gloria Cheek; and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roy Bishop and Ray Bishop; and one sister, Maudie Bell Dees.
Pallbearers will be Andrew Mitchell, Alex Mitchell, Matthew Mitchell, Adam Allen, Aaron Allen, Tommie Harris, Mitchell Harris, and Bailey Harris.
