Shirley Stanfill Smith, of Huntsville, passed away Wednesday, February 6, after a long illness. Her children were gathered around her. Born February 28, 1936 in Oakland, Tennessee, daughter of Earl and Helen Shinault, she grew up in Memphis, TN, also living several years with her beloved grandparents in Somerville.
She graduated from Memphis Tech High School, and went to Memphis State. She met the love of her life, Cecil Clinton Stanfill in Middle School and they started dating when they were in College. They married in Memphis, Tennessee in 1959. Cecil tragically died in a car accident 1979.
In 2005 Shirley moved to Huntsville, Alabama to be closer to her eldest daughter Suzanne and her family. She enjoyed being social, shopping, decorating, traveling and playing Bunco and Bridge with friends. She especially loved her home and neighbors in Mallard Point Landing.
Shirley is survived by her 3 children, and their families including 4 grandchildren: Suzanne Bradley and her sons Alex and Austin Bradley; Cecil Clinton Stanfill Junior and his wife Julie Marquez, late daughter Olivia and Elias Marquez; Stacey Stanfill and her husband Daniel Winkert, son Atticus and daughter Arya Winkert. She is also survived by her younger sister, Barbara Rogers of Seattle, Washington who she miraculously first met late in life.
