Shirley “Shirl” Gay King, age 75, of Russellville, passed away on Friday, May 09, 2025, at her residence.
Shirl was a member of Tharptown Baptist Church. She was a licensed RN who felt like nursing was a calling, a real caregiver, and had a heart for people. She liked fishing, Michigan Wolverines football, Russellville High School football, and loved mission work. She was a simple, easy-going lady, and she would always tell you to choose whatever. When asked how she was doing, her answer was always “I’m fat and sassy. Her best friend was her four-legged buddy, Tim.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her husband of 55 years, O’Neal King; grandson, Christian King; cousins, Imogene Baker, Diane Denson, Anita Coffman; and four-legged best friend, Tim.
She was preceded in death by her sons, Kevin O’Neal King, Johnathan “John” William King; and parents, W.H. & Excelia “C-Bow” (Byrd) Gay.
The visitation will be 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, at Spry Memorial Chapel. The funeral will be at 12:00 noon with Bro. Eddie Garner and Bro. Jim Lumpkin officiating the service. The burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.
The pallbearers will be Bryan Woods, Ryan Woods, Darrell Fuller, and Christian King.
The family would like to thank the bath aides, caretakers, and our special nurse, Greta Boutwell with North Alabama Hospice for the care shown to our family. Also, we want to thank our church family at Tharptown Baptist for your kindness, Shirl’s Sunday School class teacher, Mary Ann Clement, and the ladies of the class for your unwavering faith, prayers, and visits.
