Shirley Marie Counts
March 30, 1930 ~ August 9, 2023 (age 93)
In the early on the morning of August 9, our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother slipped the bonds of her earthly body and walked into the loving embrace of our Heavenly Father. We are both saddened at our loss and joyful that she is now where she wanted to be for a long time – celebrating with Jesus and with her beloved Paul.
Always a strong and active woman, she lived to the genteel age of 93. We will remember a devoted Pastor’s wife, a loving mother with a knack for making us laugh, and gentle grandmother and great-grandmother.
She taught her grandchildren and great-grandchildren to love the Lord through song and Psalm – even today they can recite the Psalm or sing the song she taught them.
She was a loving wife who demonstrated for all her children, in-laws included, how to be a godly woman and mother.
She had many hobbies over the years from her herb garden, playing piano, church choir and bell choir to her quilting. We can see the woman
with so much joy and love of the Lord in her heart praising and worshipping in the very presence of Jesus.
We will miss her terribly but are also comforted by the sure and certain knowledge that one day we will join both Dad and Mom (Papa and Nana or Nana G) and together we will once again worship together.
Shirley leaves behind 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren.
A special thank you goes out to all her caregivers at Fleming Farms for the wonderful help they gave her the last couple of years.
A service of celebration for her life will be held at Grace Lutheran Churchon August 26 at 10AM with a reception following in the Grace Family Life Center.
A private graveside service is planned for later.
Hazel Green Funeral Home is honored to serve the family.
