Shirley Faye McCarley – Obituary

Funeral for Shirley Faye McCarley, 80, of Decatur will be today, Oct. 13, 2017 at 2 p.m. at Roselawn Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Richie Thompson officiating. Burial will be in East Lawrence Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from noon to 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mrs. McCarley, who died Wednesday, Oct. 11, 2017 at her home, was born Aug. 1, 1937 in Decatur. She was preceded in death by her parents, Andrew and Louise McBay Kent; and brothers, Andrew Kent Jr. and Ronnie Gene Kent.

Following graduation from Calhoun Community College School of nursing, she began her medical career at Decatur General Hospital’s Nursery Department. She then went to work as a pediatric nurse for Dr. Kermit Pitt and continued until her retirement. She was also a member of the Eastern Star and a Lady of the Cahaba Shriners. She was a member of Trinity Baptist Church. She enjoyed being a member of the Florence Corvette Club, as well as a founding member of the Black Magic Racing Team.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Lloyd L. McCarley, Sr.; daughters, Gail (Shug) Johnson-Torres (Jerry) of Elkmont, Nancy Colburn of Los Angeles, California; son, Lloyd L. McCarley, Jr. (Beth) of Trinity; brothers, Vandis Kent of Jacksonville, Florida, Mack Kent of Hammond, Indiana, Larry Kent of Nashville, Tennessee, Steve Kent of Markham, Illinois, Jimmy Kent, Johnny Kent and David Kent, all of Hammond, Indiana; sister, Kathy Kent Babcock of Oak Forest, Illinois; grandchildren, Jonathan Shayne Johnson of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Brandon Keith Johnson (Kerry) of Muscle Shoals, Mike Johnson, II (Carrie) of Trinity, Johnathon Sparks of Trinity, Angela McCarley Ritchie (Brandon) of Winchester, Tennessee, Ellis McCarley of Huntsville, Benjamin Moore and Jason Moore, both of Los Angeles, California, Allen Colburn (Simone) of San Diego, California; nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be members of Mrs. McCarley’s Sunday school class.
