Mrs. Shirley East, 79 of Arab, Alabama, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2024, at Marshall Manor Nursing Home in Guntersville, Alabama. Shirley was born in Norfolk, Virginia on February 16, 1945, to Curtis and Evelyn Austin. She married Alvie Eugene East, on May 29, 1964, and they celebrated 45 years of marriage before Alvie passed away in 2010. She loved traveling with Alvie and her family and was always eager to share stories from the past. She retired from Huntsville Hospital so she could care for her husband prior to his death. She loved Jesus and was always willing to share her love with others and pray for everyone. She is remembered as someone who loved her friends and family unconditionally, especially her grandbabies.
She is survived by her son Gene East (Shana); two daughters Cynthia Culver and Karen East; five grandchildren, Kristy Smith (Jeff), Kayla Gyempeh (Sam), Isabella Romero, Jackson East, and Lili Romero; and three great-grandchildren Hailey Smith, Jacob Bullock and Charlee Gyempeh and one stepbrother Jackie Boaz (Carolyn). She is also survived by several special cousins. She is preceded in death by her husband, Alvie; her parents Curtis and Evelyn, her brother Tommy Austin and son-in-love, Tommy Culver.
Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Huntsville Memory Gardens. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Monday at the Brindlee Mountain Chapel Funeral Home, Gober Funeral Chapel directing.
A very special thank you to the doctors, nurses and staff at Marshall Manor Nursing Home, Marshall Medical North and Shepherd’s Cove Hospice who took care of her in the last few months and showered her with grace and love.
