Shirley Townley BRASWELL, 89, died March 1, 2025, at her Birmingham home after a multi-year illness.

Family will be receiving friends at Kilgore-Green Funeral Home, on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 1 until 1:30 p.m. Service will follow in the Kilgore-Green Chapel at 1:30 p.m., with burial at Walker Memory Gardens. Bryan Richardson will officiate.

Shirley was a native of Townley, in Walker County. She was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Linwood Townley. She was also preceded in death by her brother and sister. She is survived by many cousins and nephews and nieces. Her brother-in-law, James Bryce Braswell survives.

Shirley was a faithful member of the Church of Christ. She was devoted to Jesus Christ, our Savior. She lived out her faith, by a life of service, good will, good humor, and love.

As a young woman, she moved to Birmingham where she was a valued employee in Birmingham area banks, and capping her career as a valued assistant in the United States Bankruptcy Court in Birmingham.

Shirley was married to Earnest Braswell of Birmingham, an Air Force veteran. They were a happy couple who enjoyed their life together. Earnest was devoted to caring for her as she battled dementia. He predeceased her. Her niece Brenda Walker Cash led a devoted legion of caregivers, particularly her neighbor Sarah Huntley and other ladies in service to her needs. She was indebted to a friend of many years, Bertha Johnston.

The family gives thanks to God for her life and example, and for the joy she brought to others, and for the salvation offered by His beloved Son, Jesus Christ.
