Shirley Ann Whitaker, age 77, of Town Creek, died Thursday, April 25, 2024, at her residence. Her family will host a Celebration of Life at a later date. Parkway Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.
Mrs. Whitaker was born July 24, 1946, in Alabama to A. J. Finchum and Lucille Finchum Pylant. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Sherrill, and her parents. Shirley served as bartender for the VFW, where she was lovingly known as Squirrell. An accomplished pianist, Shirley’s early life was enjoyed performing with a gospel group known as The Harmonettes. She was a loving and devoted mother to her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by three sons, Dewayne Sherrill (Robin), Jason Whitaker, and Brian Whitaker; daughter, Vivian Allen (Ray); brother, Steve Finchum (Deb); nine grandchildren, Brittany, Caleb, Haley, Hunter, Blake, Skylar, Harley, Lily, and Houston; and seven great-grandchildren, Braiden, Carson, Arizona, Aliyah, Addyson, Remington, and Josie.
