Shirley Ann Whaley – Obituary

The funeral service for Shirley Ann Whaley, age 82 of Barfield, will be held on Saturday, September 22, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Barfield Baptist Church with Rev. John Howell officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery.

 

Mrs. Whaley passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at the Northeast Alabama Regional Medical Center in Anniston. A native and life-long resident of Clay County, she was a graduate of Lineville High School and had worked as a supervisor for Robinson Manufacturing. Mrs. Whaley worked in the swatch room at Higgins Manufacturing and had also worked as a lunchroom worker for the Clay County Board of Education at Lineville and Barfield. She was a member of Barfield Baptist Church and the Black’s Chapel Ladies Auxiliary.

 

Mrs. Whaley is survived by her son, Rick Whaley (Valeasa) of Barfield; two grandchildren: Andrew Pollard of Alabaster and Julia Cunnings of Warrior; two great-grandchildren: Aaliyah Whitley of Lineville and Jamie “J.J.” Staggs of Warrior; her special friend, Renee Bruce plus a host of nieces, nephews and church friends.

 

She was preceded in death by her parents: William Albert Latham and Mary Magdalene “Maggie” Martin Latham; her husband, Bonnie Ray Whaley; her daughter, Debbie Whaley Scott; one sister, Mary Latham Maze; three brothers: Vernon, Reginald and Jimmy Wayne Latham.

 

Pallbearers will be Jeff Maze, Scott Latham, David Hewitt, Mike Rose, Scott Smith and Billy Maze.

 

Members of the Joyful Learner’s Sunday School Class will serve as honorary pallbearers.

 

The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 21, 2018 at Benefield Funeral Home in Lineville. Mrs. Whaley will lie in state for one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday.
