Sherry Ragland Flippo of Shannon passed away at home while on hospice care surrounded by her loving family and friends on Saturday, May 16, 2015 after battling liver cancer. An intimate memorial service in her honor will be held at Brewer United Methodist Church, 280 County Road 805, Shannon, MS 38868 Friday, 5/22/15 at 6:00 pm.
Throughout her life, despite her illness, Sherry was always ready with a kind word, whether or not she knew you, greeting everyone with a smile. She will be greatly missed by all who met her, and there are no words fit to express the loss felt by her passing.
Sherry was a nurse with her BSN who truly enjoyed her 20 years at North Mississippi Medical Center working in the Intensive Care Unit before transitioning to the Heart Institute, then Case Management before being forced to leave by her illness.
Sherry was a loving wife, mother, Nana, daughter, sister, aunt, friend, neighbor, coworker, mentor, teacher. She loved books, and could always be found reading. Motown music and classic black and white movies were her favorites. Sherry made every effort to spend as much time with her “Three Beauties” as she called her granddaughters who were the light of her life brightening her face with only a mention of them. She was always up for visiting with family, and loved sitting with them by her pool surrounded by her plants and pets.
Sherry leaves a loving, devoted husband, Tommy Flippo; two sons, Richard Beasley (Misty) with three granddaughters, Evangeline, Seraphina, Adelaide of Tifton, GA; Jason Beasley (Lindsay) of Astoria, NY; one daughter, Amanda Yell (David) of Amory, one step-daughter, Angie Mills, with one grandson, Damien of Amory. She leaves her mother Dora Hill (Joe) of Haines City, FL; stepmother, Pam Stanford (Danny) of Smithville; a sister, Peggy Ragland of Caledonia; three brothers John Whittington (Birgitt) of Arlington, TN; John Ragland III (Freda) of West Memphis, AR; Daniel Ragland (Melissa) of Shannon. Sherry also leaves a host of nieces and nephews with more friends, coworkers and ‘fur babies’ to mention.
The family thanks the congregation of Brewer United Methodist Church for their kindness and generosity during our trying time. In lieu of flowers, Sherry has requested that any memorials or donations be made to Sanctuary Hospice, Tupelo-Lee Humane Society, or Brewer United Methodist Church.
