Sherry Childress Sampson, 90, of Madison, Alabama, passed away on July 28, 2025, at Huntsville Hospital Hospice Family Care in Huntsville, Alabama.

Visitation will be from 2 to 2:45 p.m. Saturday, August 2nd at The Church of the Nativity, Episcopal. A Memorial Eucharist will be celebrated at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Melissa M. Hartley, PhD officiating.

Sherry was born in Bessemer, Alabama to Moody and Jeanne Childress on November 23, 1934. She was a graduate of Bessemer High School and received her undergraduate degree at the University of Alabama in 1956, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. Sherry met and married the love of her life, Robert J. Sampson, Sr., on June 15, 1957. She taught high school English at various schools until she finally retired in the 1990s. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, and University of Alabama football. She was a member of the Church of the Nativity, Episcopal where she was involved in various groups.

Survivors include sons, Robert J. Sampson, Jr. (Terry) of Madison and Scott D. Sampson (Elaine) of Huntsville; daughter, Sherry Whitworth (Charles) of Madison; sister, Vicki Little of Tennessee; grandchildren, Matthew Sampson, Kristen Thomas (Chris), David Sampson (Courtney), Taylor Sandlin (Jesse), Hunter Whitworth (Mary Jane), Allison Godwin (Fred), Chase Whitworth (Lindsay), Mark Whitworth, and Chad Whitworth (Kelley); and great-grandchildren, Grace Sampson, Abigail Sampson, Benerson Sampson-Little, Cooper Godwin, Landon Godwin, Sutton Whitworth, Maren Whitworth, Meade Whitworth, Miller Whitworth, and Tuck Whitworth.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Charlotte; and great-grandchild, Wells Whitworth.

Memorial donations may be made to Church of the Nativity, Episcopal, Wells Clayton Whitworth Foundation, or Huntsville Hospice Family Care.
