Sherrill Elaine Cunningham Stokes Sherrill Elaine Stokes, 73, Senior Legal Advisor for J. Robert Harlan and resident of Cornersville, died Wednesday, May 31, 2022 at St. Thomas West.

 

Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Mike Roberts officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery. After the burial, the family will meet at Rotary Shelter at Maury County Park until 8:00 P.M. to visit with friends. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.

 

Born May 24, 1949 in Franklin County, Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late John Cunningham and the late Mary Cunningham. She married Van Taft Stokes who preceded her in death in 2001. She enjoyed dancing, gardening, and jokes. Mrs. Stokes was a member of Viola Baptist Church.

 

Survivors include her children, Robert (Mechelle) Stokes of Lawrenceburg; William (Crystal) Stokes of Mt. Pleasant; James (Robbi) Stokes of Cornersville; Jennifer (Michael) Stephens of Columbia; grandchildren, Billy Cole (Karmen) Hunt, Hunter Lockhart, Logan Martin, Chaela Stokes, Karissa Stokes, Brady Stokes, Taylor Stokes, Morgan (Austin) Creps, Ashton Patterson, Alexus Stephens, Bo Patterson Stephens, Makinze Stephens, Paiton Stephens, Victoria Stephens; two great grandchildren; sisters, Lisa (Tim) McMahon; Patricia Cunningham Gonzalez, Brenda Cunningham Edwards; brothers, Johnny Cunningham, Richard Cunningham, Roger Cunningham, Tim Cunningham, Andy Cunningham; special aunt, Glenda Bohanna; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

 

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a special aunt and uncle, Jane and Raymond Tucker; step-mother, Evelyn Cunningham; and sister, Betty Ann Cunningham Steavens.

 

Active pallbearers will be Kip Lindsey, Paul Watson, Bobby Jacoby, Mark Danorovich, Ray Barnes, and Josh McMullin. Honorary pallbearers include J. Robert Harlan, Anthony Edwards, Gaylon Pierce, William Clow, Michael Stephens, Delilah Speed, Debbie Wright, Carolyn Jacoby, Vickie Jones Pratt, and April Watson.
