FLORENCE – The Shoals Chamber of Commerce hosted Alabama Senator Richard Shelby at a breakfast discussion on issues of local interest. This meeting, which was held at the Marriott Shoals Conference Center, along with other similar forums, is a regular event that the Chamber holds to give its members access to our top elected officials.
Shelby discussed the main topic of the day, the Federal Budget Sequester. He reminded the audience that he did not vote for the drastic measure that was designed to be so severe that it would force the Congress to do something realistic on the budget. He reaffirmed his commitment to 2nd Amendment gun-rights and emphasized that in a nation of 300-million people and 300-million firearms, tragic instances involving guns are extremely rare. The Senator said that we must do a better job of identifying people who should not have access to deadly weapons.
Sessions is headed back to Washington later today.
