Shelby Ann Spinks, 75, died on Monday, October 22, 2018 at Decatur Morgan Hospital.  She was born August 25, 1943, in Morgan County to Cornelius Francis White and Martha Cleo Walker White.

She was a graduate of Morgan County High School but lived and worked for the School system in Maryland for most of her adult life.  She was preceded in death by her husband: Frank, her parents, a daughter: Wendy Spinks and two brothers: Cornelius White, Jr. and Thomas Wayne White.

Mrs. Spinks was a strong-willed individual who always spoke her mind but was just as nurturing and loving as a mother and grandmother. She loved meeting new people, enjoyed the chance to make a new friend or just someone to cut up with. She was incredibly thoughtful relishing birthdays and holidays as a chance to give presents and decorate for someone’s special day. After raising three children as a working mother, she was dealt a one-two punch of  tragedy- the love of her life, Frank, passed away in 1990 from mesothelioma, followed the next year by her daughter, Wendy, dying unexpectedly at 27, leaving her to raise her 5 year old granddaughter, Tiffeny.  She returned to Alabama for her retirement but didn’t stop working to keep helping her family.  Although her health began to decline, she faced each setback with the same stubborn resilience. And as she faced breast cancer this year, she would likely find a sense of satisfaction knowing it wasn’t the chemo or cancer that took her, but her heart that failed her.
