Shelba Jean Vernon, born on February 7, 1944, was the only child of Hullett and Edna Vernon. She lived her entire life in the home her parents built before she was born, she loved her home that she had shared with many pets over the years and especially her Kitty.

Shelba loved to go to gospel singings with her first cousin, Maxine Carroll. Shelba went to church at Friendship Baptist and Enmondfield.

Shelba worked several years for Nate and Cheryl Smith on their poultry farm. After retiring, Shelba loved to help in the community, she would drive the Older Ladies to Wal-Mart and doctor’s appointments or whatever was needed. Shelba had a special friend after the passing of her cousin, that would go shopping with her and take care of her, Mrs. Ila Watts. They enjoyed going to Dollar General.

Shelba was a resident of Hendrix Heath Care in Double Springs for the past year and was so thankful for the friendship of Rebecca Wood, Ila Watts, and Linda Carroll. Ms. Shelba would say to all of you today, “Thanks for coming and I love you.” She passed away to her heavenly home on Monday, January 30, 2023.

Funeral Service for Miss Vernon will be on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Friendship at Upshaw, with Bro. Donnie Carrol officiating and Peck Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 AM, at the church. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
