ATHENS-Athens Mayor Ronnie Marks, Limestone County Economic Development Association President Tom Hill and other city, county and state leaders joined Shape Corp. for a christening today at the company’s Athens site for its $24 million facility that is under construction. The facility will employ 170 workers during the planned two phases of the project.
Shape Corp. CEO Gary Verplank credited local and state efforts with workforce development and the location of its automotive customers in this area for its decision to open a facility in Athens. The site is behind Steelcase in Breeding Industrial Park. Work on the building began in November, and Shape plans to start hiring soon.
Company officials also remarked on the community spirit and collaborations between entities as positive attributes of Athens.
