Shannon Alexander Davidson – Obituary

Featured Picture Shannon Alexander Davidson died on March 17, 2019 after a long illness. Mrs. Davidson, affectionately known as “Miss Shan” to many hundreds of kindergarten children she taught at her private school for 44 years, had a great love for children. Her faith, family, friends and Happy Friends Kindergarten were most important to her.

She was the only child of Bill and Doris Alexander. She was born in Tuscumbia, AL on September 21, 1931, but moved to Huntsville in 1946. She graduated from Huntsville High School in 1949 and attended Auburn University where she was a member of Chi Omega sorority. Later, she graduated from Athens State College. She was a volunteer for Red Cross Grey Lady program at Huntsville Hospital, served as a den mother for BSA and served in a number of capacities for Blossomwood School PTA. She had served on the Board of Directors for the Mental Health Association, RCAC, BSA, HAS, Arthritis Foundation, and Second Mile Development. She was a member of Grace Club Auxiliary and Huntsville Junior League. Mrs. Davidson had served as a mentor and tutor at West Huntsville School. She was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church and served in many capacities as deacon and elder. She was a Sunday school and Logos teacher. She had been chairperson for the pre-school board, stewardship, and outreach committees and served on South Africa Task Force for North Alabama Presbytery. She made five trips to South Africa and helped build a church and pre-school there.

Survivors include two sons, Bill Clift and wife, Sigrid, of Austin, TX, and Robert Clift and wife, Diane, of Grant, AL; step-daughter, Dianna L. Hart and husband, Jim, of Vestavia, AL; step-brother, Gordon Amsler and wife, Anne; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

A private burial was held at Maple Hill Cemetery on March 22, 2019 with Dr. Thomas E. Lovell officiating.

Contributions to South Africa pre-school or Second Mile Development would be appreciated and sent in “Miss Shan’s” memory to Faith Presbyterian Church, 5003 Whitesburg Drive, Huntsville, AL 35802.
