SHEFFIELD -We got a call from Sheffield City Council Member, Penny Freeman that Birmingham-based Church of The Highlands was coming to town as part of their annual Serve Day. Literally thousands of members of this organization fan out through Alabama every July into State communities, in their words, “To show the love of Christ through real and tangible ways.” Ms. Freeman, who organizes the food pantry down at the old Army Reserve building in her District, jumped at the chance to help out in sprucing up her District.

So, Saturday several dozen Shoals residents and folks from other parts of North Alabama congregated in District 4, with tools in hand; bags of fertilizer; gloves and dungarees; and of course, wearing face masks for COVID-19 protection, and went to work in the hot sun to do a great work in Sheffield. The effort spread out to different parts of the City including the Senior Center and a small building on North Nashville Avenue. Nope… Rome wasn’t rebuilt in a day, but it was a terrific start, and set a great example of just what can be done in Sheffield when people put their minds to the effort and their shoulders to the wheel.

The Quad Cities Daily was on hand to take some EVENT PHOTOS and we present them here…
