funk a delicFLORENCE – September First Fridays will be all about music, classic cars, and ice bucket
challenges. The event is set for Friday from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Florence.
Big River Broadcasting will take over the music stage and host its weekly radio show, Funk-a-delic
Friday, from First Fridays. That is set to begin at 5 p.m. At 6 p.m. Florence Mayor Mickey Haddock and
members of the Florence City Council will take part in the ice bucket challenge to benefit the ALS Car Show Spring Park
Association.
At the north end of Court Street, from Tuscaloosa Street to Irvine Avenue, there will be a classic car
cruise-in. Motorists in that area are advised that the streets will begin closing at approximately 4 p.m. to
make room for the classic cars.
“The events scheduled for this month’s First Fridays are one-of-a-kind,” said First Fridays Committee
Chairwoman Lexi Sandlin. “Bringing Funk-a-delic Friday to First Fridays was a natural fit, and, with the
ice bucket challenge, it’s a great opportunity to bring awareness to a cause we can all support.”

back in October; the November event will be focused on the University of North Alabama and its family
day; and, in December, Santa Claus will arrive just in time for the holidays.
“We’re also gearing up for 2015 as it will mark the 10-year anniversary for First Fridays,” she said. First_Friday2014-04-04_112 copy
“We’re excited about the remainder of this year and what’s to come.”
More than 75 vendors have been approved for participation in First Fridays in April. Among the artisans
and crafters are those who make jewelry, soap, and clothing, as well as woodworkers and candlemakers.
First Fridays, which is sponsored by Listerhill Credit Union, is a committee of Downtown Florence
Unlimited and takes place the first Friday of every month during March through December. Big River
Broadcasting sponsors the music stage.
