TUSCUMBIA-On Oct. 3, 2018, Stutts presented Executive Director Michael Stamps of the Arc of the Shoals with a grant of $20,000. These funds come from the state education budget and from competitive education grants. While many legislators apply for these funds, not all legislators receive them. Senator Stutts applied for and secured multiple grants for District 6 over the 2017 session.
The purpose of The Arc of the Shoals is to provide personalized, appropriate, and quality services for people with developmental disabilities. The Arc of the Shoals believes people with developmental disabilities have the same rights as all other people. They should be able to live, work, and participate in environments that would promote as much independence as possible in the least restrictive, appropriate setting. The Arc of the Shoals believes each person has the capacity for growth and development; and each person deserves access to quality services which enhance development, productivity, and capacity for social interaction with others.
“I am humbled by the positive work being done at The Arc of the Shoals,” Senator Stutts said. “It was a pleasure spending time there, and I’m honored to fight for dollars in Montgomery to direct to organizations like The Arc of the Shoals.”
“Senator Larry Stutts came by to visit The Arc of the Shoals, and I really appreciate him taking the time to tour the program and his interest in what we do. The $20,000 grant was a wonderful surprise and could not have come at a better time. Thank you on behalf of the participants and their families that attend The Arc of the Shoals,” said Executive Director Michael Stamps.
