FLORENCE – Most anyone in The Shoals who keeps up with our rich music community knows Dick Cooper. For those who aren’t familiar with the name, Dick Cooper’s story parallels The Muscle Shoals Sound from the early ’70’s until today. Dick is a songwriter, a stage manager, historian, confidant in whom the closest secrets are held, friend, mentor, raconteur and, to some, a scoundrel. He is also a contributor and most valued friend to The Quad-Cities Daily.
Dick was busy all last week helping pull together the highly successful benefit concert for his old friend, Scott Boyer, Jr., who is in ECM Hospital following some difficult surgery two weeks ago. On Thursday afternoon at the sound check for that evening’s performance, Dick managed to find time to take some really compelling photographs of the artists as they put the final touches on their songs. Frankly, we don’t know where he gets all that energy, but we are glad to count him among our number.
We hope you enjoy this insider’s look.

What a FABULOUS night of music honoring our dear friend Scott, lots of love and positive energy was in that room! I know he could feel it, and maybe even heard it down the river!
