MUSCLE SHOALS-The Muscle Shoals Police Department released a statement concerning a juvenile with a firearm on Thursday, March 31 at McBride Elementary School.  Here is What the MSPD had to say:
“School Lockdown Investigation
On Thursday, March 31, 2022 at approximately 7:56AM an onsite Muscle Shoals Police Department School Resource Officer (SRO) was notified of a juvenile student at McBride Elementary School with a firearm. The MSPD SRO immediately put the school on lockdown.
At that time, McBride Elementary School and the Muscle Shoals Middle School went on an immediate Code Red Lockdown, while the Muscle Shoals High School went on a Code Yellow Lockdown. The MSPD SRO immediately began looking for the juvenile student. Within seconds, Patrol Officers, Detectives and Command Staff with MSPD arrived on scene.
Shortly thereafter, the juvenile student was located by MSPD Officers and detained without incident. The juvenile student was found to be in possession of a handgun. The juvenile student was then taken to the Muscle Shoals Police Department to await interviews with the juvenile’s parents and other juvenile authority agencies.
We would like to make clear, the Top Priority in situations as these, is the safety of the students and teachers at the school first. Notification to the public outside the school is extremely important to us but will always follow the duty of the Muscle Shoals Police Department and Schools Officials to make sure everyone on scene at the school is safe first.
We understand these situations are stressful for all involved, as well as those with children and loved ones inside a school, that’s why their safety comes first. More updates will be given as they become available.”
