Sarah McGehee Irvin passed away July 1, 2018 at her residence. She was born in Grand Bay, AL. She, with her husband John, resided in Mobile, AL when they chose to transfer to Huntsville in 1960 to work for the Army at Redstone Arsenal. After a few years, they moved to Monrovia, and united with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Sarah became a very active participant in church affairs. During this time, friendships were made that will last through eternity. One of her favorite joys was the closeness of the church family (men, women and kids), when participating in social events. Homemade ice cream, and fellowship beyond description, still warmed her heart when mentioned.
It is no secret that Sarah loved antiques. It was in her blood, as they say, as she always contributed to her father’s interest in buying and trading antiques. She became noteworthy as the owner of Irvin’s Antiques and Collectibles in the 90s. This facilitated having all the merchandise in one location.
She was preceded in death by her son, Scott, father, Roy, mother, Maggie May, sisters, Mary Louise and Betty, and brother, Roy.
Survivors include her husband, John; son, Phillip; grandchildren, Kelli, Ravon and Preston; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Thursday at Mt. Zion Baptist Church. The funeral will follow at the church with the Rev. Ernest Hill officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Zion Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Cemetery Fund, Mount Zion Baptist Church, 228 Mount Zion Rd., Huntsville, AL 35806.
