Mrs. Sarah Matthews Tilson, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from the Grifith Greenhouse at Traceway Manor in Tupelo, MS.

Sarah was born on September 2, 1933, to the late Jimmy and Gertie Lee Sanders Matthews in Rosedale, MS. She graduated from Minter City High School in 1952. She quickly married the love of her life Mr. (Bud) Alvin Rodgers Tilson after graduation. They shared 61 years of marriage together until Alvin died in 2013.

She made all of her girls’ clothing when they were growing up. She was very fond of gardening and being a good steward of God’s earth. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who affectionally called her Mamaw.

A service celebrating Sarah’s life will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 1 PM at Doty Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until service time at the church on Monday. A private burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Shannon.
