Mrs. Sarah Matthews Tilson, 90, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday, November 22, 2023, from the Grifith Greenhouse at Traceway Manor in Tupelo, MS.

Sarah was born on September 2, 1933, to the late Jimmy and Gertie Lee Sanders Matthews in Rosedale, MS. She graduated from Minter City High School in 1952. She quickly married the love of her life Mr. (Bud) Alvin Rodgers Tilson after graduation. They shared 61 years of marriage together until Alvin died in 2013.

Sarah was a faithful member of Doty Chapel Baptist Church and was a pillar of the church. She loved her church and her Lord. She was always found to be reading her Bible. She never let her children go to bed without reading from the Bible to them. She was a homemaker in every sense of the word. She loved sewing. She made all of her girls’ clothing when they were growing up. She was very fond of gardening and being a good steward of God’s earth. Her favorite pastime was spending time with her family and especially her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren who affectionally called her Mamaw.

A service celebrating Sarah’s life will be held on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 1 PM at Doty Chapel Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11 AM until service time at the church on Monday. A private burial will follow at Old Union Cemetery in Shannon. Condolences may be left on Mrs. Sarah’s tribute page at www.hollandfuneraldirectors.com. Holland Funeral Directors is honored to be serving their friends.

Sarah is survived by her children, Roger Tilson (Joan) of Counce, TN, Kathy Keith (Donald) of Aberdeen, and Bonnie Green (Harold) of Shannon; sister, Betty Butler; grandchildren, Shane Tilson (Tandi), Christy Davis (Doyle), Joseph Tilson (Zoie), April Keith, Joseph Keith Brooks; 10 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alvin; her brother, Jimmy Matthews; her sisters, Ona Mae Azlin, and Peggy Matthews; and her grandchildren, Amber Green and Donavan Keith.

Those serving as pallbearers will be Jordan Mears, Tyson Mears, David Green, Shane Tilson, Joseph Tilson, and Joseph Keith Brooks.
