Sarah Ann YorkSarah Ann McGee York, 90, passed away August 27, 2023, at NMMC-Hospice Unit -Tupelo, MS. Sarah was born in Vardaman, MS on October 5, 1932. She had a loving family that consisted of Walter and Clara Saxon McGee, three brothers, Buddy, Billy, and Delaine, and two sisters, Mary Sue and Jimmie Nell. Her family later moved to Houlka, MS where she spent her growing up years. In her home she was taught the core values of hard work and strong faith. She accepted Jesus as her Savior as a young girl. This strong faith caried her through the challenges life brings to us all. Upon completion of high school, Sarah lived in Tunica, MS later moving to Memphis, TN, where she and several of her Houlka High School friends worked and shared a house together. Later Sarah met Boyce Luna and they were married. She worked at First National Bank in Memphis, TN. In 1957 Boyce and Sarah welcomed their first child Sheryl and in 1961 their first son Rick. Sarah left her banking career to devote herself to taking care of her family. She excelled. She was an excellent wife and mother. She was a wonderful cook, nurse, companion, driver, scout leader, PTA committee member and bible teacher – just an all-around “do everything” mom. While handling all of these duties, she never let anything get in the way of her serving Jesus. Always making sure their family went to church, said their prayers, and respected God and others. She taught Sunday school from the time her children were little at Fairlawn Baptist Church in Memphis, TN until she moved to Pontotoc, MS and attended First Baptist Church in Pontotoc, MS where she moved in 1989. Many children, and parents, were blessed by having their children taught by “Mrs. Sarah”. After moving to Pontotoc seven years after the death of her husband, Boyce, Sarah worked several secretarial jobs until she found a job she cherished as librarian at the Pontotoc County Library. She held this job for about 20 years. During these years, she was blessed with amazing friends, neighbors, and helpers, that we call angels – God’s hands and feet on earth. She loved them dearly. During her Pontotoc ears, she welcomed six grandchildren and two great-grandsons. In 1997, Sarah married Wallis York and they were able to enjoy years of travel and camping with family and friends. Sarah lived a full life right up to the near end with wonderful friends and family visiting her at home. She loved it all – the phone calls, the visits, and even the cooking! The family is thankful for everyone making Sarah’s life so full and thankful God gave them such a great mom. She was loved by many, but most of all by Jesus. Jesus wanted her home, and he gently took her to be with him. We know Sarah will enjoy heaven and the family will rejoice when they see her again!

Sarah is survived by her son, Richard Luna (Lana); daughter, Sheryl Luna McKinnon (Joe); grandsons, Thaddaeus McKinnon (Amy), and Nathan McKinnon, Brett Luna; granddaughters, Whitney Price (Will), Alyssa Gallardo (Kevin), and Brooke Luna; great-grandsons, Parker McKinnon and Elias Price; and many loving nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her father, Walter McGee; her mother, Clara McGee; her sisters, Mary Sue Montgomery, and Jimmie Nell Schubert; her brothers, Walter “Buddy” McGee, Willaim “Billy” McGee, and Charles Delaine McGee; her husbands, Boyce H. Luna and Wallis York; her grandson, Timothy Jared McKinnon; and her nephew, Walter Montgomery.
