Sara Maude King Corbitt

Sara Maude King Corbitt, age 85, passed away on May 7, 2025. She was born on September 29, 1939, to the late Gladys Solley King and Woody King and was raised in the Martling, Alabama, community. She was the beloved wife of the late James Lester “Sonny” Corbitt Sr.

Sara graduated from Albertville High School at age 16 and from the University of Alabama in 1958. She was among the first women to work at NASA, serving as an analytical chemist in the engineering materials division for the Saturn and Apollo programs from 1960 to 1972. She later devoted her time to her family as a homemaker, taught GED classes, and volunteered with Bible school and Latino ministries at her church.

She is survived by her son, Shannon Corbitt (Lauren), and granddaughters Maggie, Becca, and Brooksie Corbitt, along with several cousins and nieces. In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by her brother, Wallace Glenn King, and her son, James Lester Corbitt Jr.

Services will be held on Friday, May 9th, at Albertville First Methodist Church. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00–2:30 p.m., with a memorial service immediately following at 2:30 p.m. Adams Brown Service Funeral Home is assisting the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Latino ministries at Albertville First Methodist Church.
