Sara Griffin Parris Skelton departed this life on Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at the age of 86 years, 1 month, 8 days. She was born in Gillsville, Georgia on July 3, 1929, the daughter of the late Samuel and Christine Brock Griffin.
Sara graduated nursing school in Atlanta, Georgia and later went on to teach nurse’s aide classes for the Hardin County Board of Education in Savannah, Tennessee. She had also lived in Clarinda, Iowa. She was a housewife, raising her children, helping with her grandchildren, and took care of her parents and grandparents. She loved flowers, preparing meals for people, visiting and calling people, especially those in the hospital. She had a servants heart and enjoyed caring for others.
Sara was a member of the First United Methodist Church, she was a founding member of the Savannah Junior Auxiliary, volunteered at the Red Cross Bloodmobile for several years, and she was a Girl Scout Camp nurse.
She is survived by her children, Susan V. Parris, Elisabeth Elaine Parris Grisham and husband, Bruce L., Dr. Benson L. Parris and wife, Denise all of Savannah, Tennessee, and Dr. William G. Parris and wife, Carla of Germantown, Tennessee; grandchildren, William Lee Grisham, John Bruce Grisham, Sara Parris, Cathleen Gagnon, Nathaniel Parris, Chandler Lambert, Austin Parris, Elijah Parris, and Micah Parris; great-grandchild, Benjamin William Grisham; sister, Aranette Walker of Atlanta, Georgia.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William Benson Parris and grandson, Noah Parris.
